We are going to have all the college bowl games here at the Tiger Paw Hostel.  The ONLY place to watch them in Medellin!

We have purchased the ESPN Gameplan (college football) and NFL Ticket to show football this fall at our sports bar located in the Tiger Paw Hostel.

Our sports bar as 5 flat screen TVs to show 5 different football games at a time.

For football fans, you won't have to miss a game while on vacation.

We also have a Direct TV disk so you will not have to miss the other type of football games (we Americans call it soccer) of the European Leagues.

Funny, Aussie Scott won Beer Pong and two Tuesday night trivia contests in a row.  Former engineer , like me! =), go figure…

Anyway, here are some pictures.  Scott is the guy with the goatee and pony-tail. I can not type in this blog their vulgar team name but it was something like “lick her in the ……, poke her in the….”

We had our first team trivia night this Tuesday.  It was hosted by fellow teacher, Nicole Mills, who did an excellent job hosting and with selecting the questions.  Also a former guest and now Medellin resident, Michael, really helped us out with the power point presentation. Thanks to both of you.

The trivia night bought in some ex-pats to the hostel which I think is great because they can provide a lot of local insight into Medellin. The winning team was “AUT” which won a bottle of Medellin Rum. I still don’t know what the AUT stands for =).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures.  We are going to do this every Tuesday night from now on, along with the Beer Pong tourney’s on Friday which has really taken-off.  See you there!

Beer Pong Mondays have started at The Tiger Paw.

I played the first game and lost to a fellow teacher at the school (John) in a VERY close match-up.  Maybe the fact that I started Beer Pong Mondays on Thursday was to blame, I dunno.  Anyway, starting this Monday we are accepting applications for the top teams in Medellin to play at the Tiger Paw this Monday, Feb. 23rd.

The fee for each team is 20 mil pesos per team.  There are two persons per team. The prize will be 10 mil pesos per each team who enters (the other 10 is to pay for the beer).  The rules are standard Beer Pong play with a bracket tourney schedule. There will be other prizes and give-a-aways offered as well.

We are only 8 months old but we are already making major improvements.  I think it is important to always find ways to improve and we have had a few things we’ve wanted to do for a while.

To the hostel we are adding a brand new large common area downstairs with a library exchange , cable / Direct TV, huge large screen TV, and a free DVD library with over 100 selections. We are also adding another new computer with free internet.  We are also redecorating and adding new furniture.  I am really excited about the changes which will be completely finished by the end of Feb.

To the private rooms with private baths we are installing them with TVs and redecorating / painting.

For the bar, we are designing a ping pong table top to go on top of the pool table for Beer Pong nights (more about this later).

For the restaurant / bar we are adding a larger outdoor seating area and made some changes to the food menu.  We even have a new logo for the bar / restaurant.  It is called Tiger Tavern and you can see it proudly displaying from the bar window.  We are also improving the sound system and including the outdoor section with sound as well.

One last thing is that we are focusing more on activities and events.  In March we are starting Beer Pong Mondays (immature but fun drinking game on a ping pong table), Taco Tuesdays, BBQ on the roof terrace on Sundays, and movie nights on Wednesdays with all our old favorites on big screen in the bar.  We are also going to having other random events being offered and will be focusing on this a great deal since we think this is the biggest thing missing with the hostels in Medellin (including us!).

Also, check back for March Madness in the sports bar (more about this in a different post).  My (Clemson) Tigers will be in the big dance so I’m pretty excited about it.  We have enough flat screens to show most of the games.
